Note to self

Don't cut timber on the bench with a power saw without covering all the delicate parts on the bench, shakes head.

Great Ocean Road

The projects are on hold for now, still waiting for parts to arrive, The smallie frame and bits have been picked up by the owner to be straightened out and repainted, he's going with a shade or two darker than fire engine red, it will look great. The stator is off to be re-wired, I'm going to have to find a new switch, or a way to get the wires connected, the connection points are fixed and the wire ends are crimped in, no way to get them out to replace. Maybe drill and solder? anyway.
So yesterday I hooked up with some club mates from Melbourne and rode one of Australia's iconic road trips, the Great Ocean Road. It was a fantastic day, 30 degree, not a cloud in the sky, we met in Birregurra and rode to Forrest for a coffee, then down the hill to Apollo Bay, anyone who has been along this stretch of road will tell you is is nothing short of spectacular, even better on a bike. We had some lunch and and a swim, well I didn't I went and got fuel, and set off for the 80 kms of twisting turning road, the azure southern ocean on our right and high cliffs on the other, just magic, the scoot went famously, the only problem was my racing gear changes and at times my non racing gear changes. we stopped in Anglesea to top up and a quick drink, then parted ways, I cut back through to the road I normally take to Geelong and then home. 260kms all up fuel consumption was 25.4km per litre, that was about 85% at 80 real kmph, some fast straights and bumper to bumper in the coastal towns. Already pencilled in the next one.

little progress

I've come to a standstill on both engines, parts are on the way, I'm sending the 75cc stator off to get it serviced and rewired with the correct colours, I spent hours trying to figure out what was going on to no avail, all the smallframe engine is clean and dismantled, the case has three cracks in it, all small and all non crucial as they are in the gear oil part of the frame so they will be welded up to stop any leaks. So now I wait.
The bench is covered in piles and bowls of bits, the new ones on one side, old on the other.
I am trying to get the little needle bearing housings out of the bottom of the fork, they are rusted in and everything I have tried has failed so far, going to bring in the serious tools next attempt.
So it's going to be a bit quiet. but I'm sure I'll find something to write about.
Been nicely distracted the last few days.
Watch this space.
