Small steps

Only got the axle bearing in, spare time is at a premium lately. The colour or the oil is a little disturbing, mineral 2t for the run in, soaking the clutch plates. The other pics speak for themselves.

Here we go again

After putting in 11 hours of painting over the weekend, I didn't really get very far into the engine build. I cleaned up all the parts that needed it and laid them out. I decided that the kickstart mechanism was the first cab off the rank, o-ring in and the quadrant didn't fit into the hole, here we go again, it needed just a whisker dremelled off it and a light sanding and it was home. I heated up the case with my new heat gun and installed the two bearings, tapped home  with a timber drift and a dead blow hammer, lastly I tapped the bearing ring onto the crank after heating that too, remembering put something between the crank webs, I use the part that is on the end of the clutch arm that pushes the plunger onto the clutch plate, its a snug and perfect fit, I had photos of all this, but I can't upload them for some reason...I'll get some more.
Next on the list is the other two bearings, clutch build, still waiting on a 2nd and 3rd gear and the clutch arm and I have to get hold of some kickstart quadrant stop rubbers and some case nuts. I have plenty to do to keep me busy while I wait.

Where to start?

The second box of parts landed on the garage floor yesterday, so I unpacked it all and spread it out on the bench and as I did, I got a little nervous. Most of the parts are the same as the Sprint, some slightly bigger but the question popped up in my head "where the bloody hell do I start?"
A few parts have a bit of surface rust, NOS parts mostly after spending god knows how long in a box waiting to be used, so the first thing to do is clean everything up so it's nice and dust/rust free and bluff my way through it with the help of rebuilding DVDs and the three or so manuals/restoration books I have at the ready.

The tricky part will be the non points stator and connecting it to my wiring, Mark at Carters Classic Scooters, supplier of the parts, assures me it won't be a problem. it has five wires I think and my system has only three to connect them to, I'll figure it out.
I also picked up some bits for the new Sprint V engine for when the P200 is in the scoot and running, I'll rebuild it using the parts I am running now. Wish me luck.

Workshop ready and waiting

After going through and shifting boxes around I have the new workshop ready for action. The second box of parts is being finalised in the next few days and I am looking forward to having a distraction from the new house jobs like painting, mowing grass etc.

The work bench ready to go

Out of all the ones I have, this one is my favorite, reminds me of someone.

This used to be in the kitchen of the house until they renovated it, very handy I must say.

A new beginning

Back from an interstate Christmas visit and into our new house, moving isn't one of my favorite things, but this time I actually enjoyed it, moving out of a small flat on the inlaws property into a three bedroom house after a year was a relief.....anyway. My parts have started to arrive, I got all the top end, crank, flywheel and clutch cover, I'm expecting the rest in the next day or so, the workshop is taking shape, still sorting things out while we unpack. The old girl was a little neglected the last few weeks, I did however attempt to get the horn working with no luck this time, but in true Vespa form I realised later that the horn does work.....but only when I hit the kill button, it's quite funny when I pull to a stop and press the button it lets out a low honk that sounds like someone stepping on an electronic duck. I'll get to it sooner or later, should be an easy fix now I know what's going on.

Here's my youngest in his cookie monster suit admiring the scoot "Bout time you swapped out the pop rivets for some self tappers Dad"

The bits I have waiting for the rest to arrive.

That time of year..

Firstly, to all, enjoy this time of year, regardless of your beliefs, time with family and friends is priceless. Always.
A quick update. Cases are back from the soda blasters, clean as a whistle, parts are all in and on their way from the supplier, Mark of Carters Classic Scooters in Adelaide, thing is they haven't arrived and I'm carting the family up to New South Wales to spent Christmas with my family in two days. The "P" project will be waiting when we get home in a weeks time, I'll have a few days before I go back to work to hook into it..... We have just sold and bought a house an have moved in two days ago, busy times with three boys under 5, haven't even had a chance to ride Gloria for over a week now, which reminds me I bought some expensive 2T and some mineral 2T for the run in, I cracked both bottles for a smell, you know you're hooked when you say to yourself " mmmm i like the smell of that".....
All the best.

Waiting

The P case is at the soda blasters, the last of the parts I am waiting on from overseas are starting to arrive, once complete I will get all of them delivered at once and then I can start.
I found out the problem with the SPVs rear lights, the holders have little tabs that touch the sides of the globe stems to complete the circuit, through a series of bulb changes I had managed to move them to a position that the must have just been touching, the long ride the other week obviously didn't help.
